The Round Church Flower Festival - 11th to 13th July, 2008.

Were you married in the Round Church?

This year the Round Church Flower Festival will be held from Friday 11th until Sunday 13th July. Because this year we are having more weddings in the church than we have had for several years and because several couples in the congregation are celebrating special anniversaries this year, the theme for the festival will be “A Celebration of Marriage”.

We would like to appeal for photographs and other memorabilia (such as invitations, order of services and even wedding dresses) of weddings which have taken place in the Round Church over the years, to use at the festival. Any items loaned will be carefully looked after and returned to you immediately afterwards. We hope to be able to mount an exhibition celebrating these special weddings as a focal point of the festival.

There is no record of all the marriages celebrated in the church - ministers keep their own lists - so we are appealing for help to put together a book recording Round Church weddings going as far back as possible. So if you or any of your family were married in the Round Church, particularly if you no longer live on Islay, please contact the session-clerk@theroundchurch.org.uk. We would like to record the bride’s name, the groom’s name, the date of the wedding and the name of the officiating minister (if known).

We also invite you to donate flowers, perhaps to remember your own wedding or in memory of parents, grandparents, greatgrandparents.....! Please bring flowers to the church on Thursday 10th July from 10am onwards. And if you would like to help arrange the flowers your assistance would be very much appreciated.

The Session Clerk, Marian Senior session-clerk@theroundchurch.org.uk , will be pleased to hear from you and we thank you for your help in this project.

The church will be open each day from 10am until 4pm for visitors to view the flower arrangements and we will welcome all to morning worship on Sunday at 10am and to a special Songs of Praise to close the festival at 7pm on the Sunday evening.
