Vacancy
The linkage of The Round Church with St John's Church at Port Ellen was formalised at the
end of January 2008, and we are at last allowed to advertise for a minister for the linked charge.
The following advertisement has been placed in Life and Work:
The Island of Islay
Kilarrow l/w Kildalton & Oa
(Bowmore and Port Ellen)
This newly linked, unrestricted Charge on the beautiful Island of Islay (the most southerly
of the Hebrides) is seeking a minister.
As well as the usual requirements we hope that applicants would be flexible enough to contribute
and enhance life and worship in both parishes.
Further information and Parish Profile may be obtained from Rev David Carruthers (Interim
Moderator) Tel 01546 603269 or Marion McGregor (Clerk to the Nomination Committee), 67
Jamieson Street, Bowmore, Islay. Tel 01496 810308.
Closing Date: 31st July 2008.

The Round Church has served this Parish since it was built in 1767. Legend has it that the
church is round to leave no corner in which the devil may hide!
More than 90 members make up the worshipping community which currently meets at 10.00am each Sunday.
The Church, with its remarkable structure, is a historic A-listed building and a must-see for
visitors to the Island of Islay, situated as it is in a strategic position in Bowmore.
The Sanctuary has a seating capacity for more than 400 people and is open daily between 9am and 6pm
for personal prayer and meditation.
Communion Services are currently held quarterly on the first Sunday of January, March, June and
September and other occasions as appropriate. Home Communion is available to those unable to attend
Public Worship.
The Kirk Session believes that Prayer and the exposition of God's Word are fundamental to the life
and growth of the Church. Its members and visitors are encouraged to meet in "Fellowship
Groups" of various forms during the week and share in outreach commitments through the
Youth Activities of Junior Church (10.00am Sunday) and hospital visitation.
Participation in World Mission
is becoming an increasing priority and the Church partners with Mission personnel in a variety of
countries.
Interim Moderator: Rev. David Carruthers of Ardrishaig and South Knapdale
